Title

Gert Rude Music Marketing For Independent Jazz and Experimental Music

Description

After extensive work in avant guard, experimental, jazz marketing, professional self-production, and networking, saxophonist and composer, producer, and music business professional Rent Romus founded Gert Rude Music.

In 1985 Rent Romus rejuvenated the North Area Youth Jazz Ensemble (NAYJE) based in the S. F. Bay Area. He founded Edgetone Records and JOTL Publishing in 1988. As a performing musician he realized a strong independent support system in music business was the foundation for longevity in the field. Also in 1988, he helped to revitalize the University of California at Santa Cruz' jazz program. After 1992, he expanded his marketing skills by helping other local and international musicians (see clients list) become self empowered through on hand performance marketing. He increased Jazz Now Magazine’s advertising sales three fold from 1994 to 1996, and from 1996-97 he consulted for Jazz In Flight a national jazz presenter located in Oakland, CA as the interim Director.

In 1999 he turned towards supporting the experimental community in the greater S. F. Bay Area. Since 2000 he co-curates the SIMM Music Series in San Francisco presenting new and experimental music in all forms. In 2002 he became a co-curator for the Luggage Store Gallery the longest running series for the local as well as international experimental music communities.
