Hi, I'm Marc Sinclair; I formed Germaine Systems in 1991 to solve automation problems using the most appropriate technology in an imaginative way - remembering that machines and people must work together. For example, spending time considering a button layout, choosing optimum lamp position and colours can affect the way operators use a machine, giving shorter training times and quicker acceptance. Time spent on control panel design to group and position the components may not be an obvious functional advantage but if the layout encourages methodical fault finding then this can lead to efficient maintenance and less down time. Functionality, Safety and Standards compliance are given, with a little imagination we can add elegance, customer satisfaction and operator enthusiasm. These are qualities that lead to simpler installation, lower maintenance and future business.
Germaine Systems is not typical of automation companies, it is an association of people and skills working together on a project. The company's ethic and goals remain consistent but the components and the people are chosen as appropriate. This way of working is efficient and extremely satisfying. Because the personnel work in a variety of industries, the solutions are different and creative. The system works, there are many projects working well, in many industries, in many parts of the world to prove it. We do hit snags, Sometimes the technology isn't ready, some companies don't meet our ethical policy and sometimes the project is never going to work!!
