An absolute must on the Central Queensland Sapphire Gemfields calendar is multi-award winning Gemfest "Festival of Gems", the annual 4-day event celebrating Sapphires and the sapphire industry of Central Queensland.
This year is the 17th festival which started in 1988 as a Bi-Centenary Project. The festival itself is held at the Allan King Memorial Park in Anakie from the 2nd Thursday through the 2nd Sunday of August.
Miners, merchants and traders sell, swap, barter, buy and display a huge variety of rough and faceted gems, jewelery, crystals, minerals and fossils in the Anakie Hall and Giant Marquee. The "Jewels of The Outback" Exhibition showcases Australian large, unusual and rare Sapphires, opals, gold and diamonds.
