Title

The Greater Bay Area Costumers Guild

Description

In the fall of 1990, Jana Keeler and Jwlhyfer de Winter met at the Northern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire and talked about their ideas for forming a costume group. They wanted to create an environment where people with myriad interests could share their knowledge and love of costuming. From that conversation was born, Dreamers of Decadence, the Greater Bay Area Costumer's Guild. The first event was held on October 14, 1990. It was a gathering of 25 people in the Shakespeare Garden in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The theme was period and fantasy-inspired dress from the dawn of time to the 1930s.

After that first successful event, Jana and Jwlhyfer held an organizational meeting on Sunday, 3 March 1991. The group name was chosen. Jana and Jwlhyfer were elected as Co-Presidents. Bruce MacDermott was the Treasurer and Denisen Hartlove (nee Fraser) was the Recording Secretary.

The Founding Members: Jwlhyfer de Winter, Jana Keeler, Richard Lawrence, Victoria Lawrence, Bruce MacDermott, Dana MacDermott, Carolyn Katya Barrows, and Cherie Moore. From the beginning, many people contributed their time and talent to make GBACG into the organization it is today.
