About Us
Games are our Passion. The Games Shop opened its first store in historic Royal Arcade, Melbourne in 1978. In those days, a specialist games shop was somewhat of a novelty in Australia (indeed anywhere in the world). Chess and Backgammon were the mainstays of the business back then.
Now in its third decade, the store has become somewhat of a tourist attraction. It is visited by people from all over the world seeking a unique Australian chess set, game or puzzle. Many know our reputation for supporting Australian designed and made games and puzzles. It is a policy that has been of mutual benefit over the years.
Our products may have changed over the years, but the focus of the business hasn't. We are passionate advocates of traditional games and puzzles. We cherish the pleasure derived from playing a game around a table, much the same way our grandparents did. In our view, nothing rivals the excitement and satisfaction of a family or group of friends enjoying a game or puzzle together.
