Description
Jay Whitehair Gallery Furniture is located in Norwich, Vermont in the Upper Valley region of the Connecticut river watershed. Jay’s studio sits on 13 acres of the Green Mountain state where he, his wife, and two children savor the simple ways of Vermont living.
When I was a little boy, on the hottest days of summer, my family would load up the car and drive to our summer house on Squam Lake in New Hampshire. To this day, I can clearly recall sitting on a plank in our old boathouse admiring the family’s vintage lake boat. Her golden brown mahogany magically reflected each wavelet and the polished chrome and buttoned leather upholstery were a feast for my senses. I still remember seeing, through the imaginary unsettled dust, boat builders & metal workers bending, sawing, scraping and varnishing...
While working in various yacht yards along the Atlantic coastline and while at sea, I became fascinated by the subtle and graceful properties of wood on water - patina, color, curves, radiant woods, simple form and function. These raw and wonderful attributes now form the foundation from which I create my furniture designs. With passion and focus I am thrilled to have discovered, and to be working from, such a dynamic palette.
