Description
When asked "What enticed you to becoming a furniture designer and artisan?" Rob Anderson will tell you that "I wanted to bring pleasure and comfort to the ambiance of a person's surroundings, art made to last generations, a way to leave my mark on the world long after I have gone." Well, he is surely on his way to doing just that!
Born into a mid-western family consisting of eight children, where "new" really meant "hand-me-downs", Rob quickly acquired an appreciation in the "finer" things in life. After struggling as a musician, a model and then, later, working as a bookkeeper, Rob decided to make his real dream come true. He began making furniture for his own home, taking on designs from Louis the XIV as well as contemporary designs inspired by Emile Ruhlmann.
Although Rob has studied marquetry under Silas Kopf, carving with Marc Adams' and decorative inlay at the North Bennett Street School, most of his experience has been self-acquired. Spending hours studying the techniques and designs of the greats: Andre-Charles Boulle, Jean-Fancois Oeben, Jean-Henri Riesener, Elime Ruhlmann, Jean Dunand and Jean Michael Frank, Rob has now become one of the leading woodworking artisans in the country. Among other awards, Rob has won 1st & 2nd places in the Del Mar Fair for Traditional & Contemporary Design in Wood. You can also find Rob teaching and lecturing for the American Woodworking Assoc., Woodworkers of Southern California, and the Marc Adams Woodworking School.
