In 1954 “city water” was brought to the country through successful efforts of the Farragut Civic Club. FUD was developed during a time when residents used wells, springs, or cisterns for their water source, many were worried about the declining water quality in their well and the effect it could have on their health. For $4,750 the District purchased Walker Springs and built a small pumping station, which had a flow of about 500 gallons per minute. In October of 1955, 700 customers began receiving water service.
