Folklore ensemble Háj is a cultural body grouping enthusiastic fans of folk dance, songs and traditions. It was established in 1975 under the artistic and managing leadership of Mr. and Mrs. Pavelek, their principal idea having been the conservation of traditional folklore and its dances and music.
They focused on their birthplace, the region of Gemer – Malohont, mainly the villages of Klenovec, Kokava n/ Rimavicou and their surroundings. Based on their private collections of materials gained during their life long research of the region, a series of choreographic performances has developed.
Dances named “Okolo Rimavy” (Around the River Rimava), “Na záhumní“ (An Evening At the Village Backyards), “Zbojnícky“ (Outlaws’), “Páračky“ (Ripping the Feathers), “Kokava“, “Vepor“, “Regrúti“ (Recruits), “Remeselnícky“ (Craftsmen’s) have been in the repertoire for more than 30 years without a change.
