First State Bank of Frankston opened its doors on January 20, 1909. Soon thereafter, John F. Austin was elected president, a position he held until his death in 1931. He was succeeded by Ray Perry. The fall of 1929 brought about the Great Depression which resulted in the closing of all banks nationwide. However, First State Bank proved that it was strong and fully capable of meeting the banking needs of the community and reopened for business at the first possible date.
