Description

Yours To Experience - Naturally!

MacGregor Point Provincial Park is one of the most overlooked natural wonders along the Lake Huron shoreline. This forested provincial park offers the traveller experiences to remember. MacGregor Point is located 5 kilometres south of Port Elgin off Highway 21.

MacGregor Point is part of a natural forested corridor that extends along the shore of Lake Huron. This 1366 hectare parcel of land consists of wetlands, former beach ridges, sand dune and forest communities. It is a haven to over 105 migratory birds, nesting warblers and songbirds. This varied forest habitat has helped some southern species such as the Red-bellied Woodpecker, Blue-grey Gnatcatcher and Carolina Wren extend their range northward.

A Class 1 wetland, MacGregor Point is also home to uncommon plants and animals such as the Purple Bladderwort, Rose Pogonia, and Spotted Turtle. Dwarf Lake Iris can be found along the former beach ridges. Wildlife viewing opportunities are possible for White-tailed Deer, Snowshoe Hare, Raccoons, Porcupines, Chipmunks and Red Squirrels, and Red Fox. In season, American Woodcock, Common Snipe and Black-billed Cuckoo can be heard.
