Commonwealth Shakespeare
Description
In May 2003 the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company and The Wang Center for the Performing Arts, fully realizing how similar their mission statements are, joined forces to continue to bring Free Shakespeare to Boston, giving CSC the infrastructure that their growth and vision demanded. CSC’s development, marketing, communications and education activities are administered by The Wang Center, leaving CSC to concentrate on their artistic vision and the goal to expanded, year-round Shakespeare offerings. Both organizations are jointly committed to education, to expanding the vibrant arts scene in Boston and to pursuing their bold visions of the future.
In 1996 Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) created the summer productions of Shakespeare’s plays free of charge in outdoor, easily accessible venues, allowing everyone to share in the extraordinary genius of Shakespeare and the excitement of live theater.
CSC is equally committed and devoted to enriching Boston’s cultural and education communities by sharing its work with youth groups throughout Boston with the goal of introducing young people to Shakespeare and theater.
