Title

The Framingham Education Foundation

Description

The Framingham Education Foundation (FEF) is a community-based, tax-exempt organization founded to provide strategic support and enrichment in our schools. The foundation is an independent group free to dispense funds according to its own by-laws in conjunction with the goals of the Framingham Public School System. It is not part of the public school budget or administration.

Founded in 1990 in response to school budget cuts resulting from Proposition 2-1/2, the Framingham Education Foundation has awarded $185,695 in 239 mini-grants over the years. Grantees have been divided equitably among those focusing on the areas of fine arts, language arts, math/science, social studies, technology, and student development/support. (FEF does not fund salaries or building projects.) Staff development in the area of technology is funded through the Thayer Grant for Technology and Research Program.

Beginning in September 2002, the foundation kicked off a new era when it received a generous Challenge Grant of $100,000. In the eighteen months that the Foundation successfully raised the necessary $100,000 in matching funds, the organization's activities expanded with Signature Projects, new programs, and new funds.
