We discovered the Adventure Craft trailerable houseboat by accident; a small ad in the back of a boat magazine in our dentist's office one day during the summer of 1999... One look, and the next thing we knew we were clearing security at the Tampa airport. Waiting for us was a small company that had been making unique houseboats for two years with no ad budget [by boating standards], almost no dealer network, and still had sold nearly 200 boats largely by word of mouth. We felt strongly that this product was remarkable, and the company poised for explosive growth. We still do. A boat originally built near Tampa Bay would be worthy of the conditions found in our Chesapeake Bay. It was a natural. A very comfortable bay boat that is just as happy in lakes and rivers. Stable enough to have the kids safe and secure, tough enough to make an effective fishing platform. All the while delivering 3 gallon per hour fuel economy.

An important element to the story is this: we are not really boat people. When we moved to Maryland's Eastern Shore in late summer of 1996, we did it to rehab a 160-year-old Victorian style home and enjoy the sights and life style unique to this area.

In fact, I am a former glider pilot who flew fiberglass acrobatic sailplanes, and my wife had one of those big yellow GMC motorhomes named [of course] "The Yellow Submarine" that she used to roam around the U.S. with a load of kids during the 1970's.
