FODO represents the business interests of registered opticians.
FODO aims to ensure that the views of our wide ranging membership is taken into account by policy makers, government and the regulatory bodies. Our membership includes individual opticians, most of the regional and family companies and substantial national groups.
Key policy platforms:
The eye examination paid for the government should continue for those groups presently covered. Additional coverage should be justified on medical grounds, and we believe that the extension to 'over 60's' is medically justified.
The full eye examination should remain the passport to the purchase of spectacles and contact lenses, and it is in the interest of patients that this link be maintained. If dispensing was permitted following a simple refraction test, rather than a full eye examination, then the preventive health benefits of the eye examination could largely disappear.
