Title

Steelhead and Salmon fishing in Washington state

Description

Growing up as a kid in Seattle, Bob lived close to the Ballard locks and often he would sneak out of the house to fish there for steelhead during the winter months. Bob spent most of the free time he had in childhood fishing and still get's a chuckle at the look the old timers used to give he and his buddies when they would show up at the Locks to fish during school hours. When his parents showed up after school to pick him up, little did they know how often he'd hop into the car with a steelhead or salmon tucked away in his book bag.

After graduating from high school he had the opportunity to go north to Alaska and fish commercially on a Purse Seiner during the summer months. With fishing in his blood he couldn't stand to have the winters off and soon he was headed back north again, but this time destined for the Bering Sea on a king crab boat. With windows of free time in between each season he began guiding for salmon and steelhead on Washington's many rivers. By the mid-80's he and his wife moved to the banks of Washington's famed Skykomish River to get closer to the action and Bob was soon spending 6 to 7 days a week on the river in between commercial seasons. In the early 90's, with commercial fishing slowing down due to price and the shortening of seasons, he sold all his commercial boats and fishing permits and started to guide in Alaska during the spring and summer.

In 1994 Bob and his wife, Patty, started "Wooden Wheel Cove Lodge", a full service sportfishing lodge located on Prince of Wales island in Southeast Alaska. Bob guided lodge guests from all over the world to the best salmon and halibut fishing the ocean has to offer. After achieving success, Bob and his wife sold the lodge in 2001 to simplify their lives and to give Bob a chance to get to what he really loves...fishing!
