Description
FishScotland is a private enterprise national marketing system for all types of fishing in Scotland provided by FishScotland Ltd. It is regulated by the Angling Tourism Development Group on which sit representatives of the main industry groupings, Scottish Enterprise, VisitScotland and the Scottish Executive. The result is an informal public/private partnership to ensure the best possible promotion of Scotland's world class fishing.
FishScotland has evolved out of a series of marketing initiatives for fishing and started with the build up of the largest letting agency on the River Tweed. Fellow agents and owners on that river were then persuaded to come together on the new FishTweed web site. The success of this operation brought requests from other rivers to do the same thing, leading to the birth of FishDee and FishTay and the company name changing to FishSalmon. Further requests from industry and public bodies to extend the system to all types of fishing has lead to another change of name to FishScotland and this became a Limited Company on 1st January 2005 (no SC272102)
FishScotland is run as a franchise system, with FishScotland Ltd providing IT systems, web sites, telephone & database systems, training and national marketing. The franchises are taken up by industry groupings who provide the local knowledge and management.
