FISH307.com started in 1992 as Peace Pipe Bait & Tackle as an addition to the Peace Pipe Cottages in Bolton Landing, on beautiful Lake George, NY. As the tackle business grew we changed our name to Peace Pipe Fishing Outfitters. During that time we became heavily involved in the sale and repair of downriggers and all of the equipment that is needed to be successful in downrigger fishing as well as bass and northern pike. In 1995 the internet was beginning to take hold and we decided to get in to the mail order business. We needed a name. So here is where the FISH307.com name came from.
In 1994 we needed a toll free telephone number to take care of our through-the-door customers when they were out of town. I wanted a number with the word “Fish” in it. Fish on the telephone is 3474. The person at the company I was dealing with spent 3 hours researching and trying to find a suitable number. She came up with the only number available at the time and that was 1-800-FISH307 (3474). When she told me, I said “Thanks, you just named our future mail order business. Four syllables, bounces nicely and easy to remember if you had some interest.”
The year 2002 comes and we decide that a true expansion of the fishing tackle business is in order. The Peace Pipe Cottages are sold and we change the name of the physical store to FISH307.com. We now can be found by using the same name in 3 venues, bricks & mortar, internet, and telephone.
