The region's largest New Year's Eve celebration, First Night Pittsburgh is a family-friendly event that inspires the inventive spirit in all of us. Early evening fireworks start the evening with a bang and set the tempo for the dozens of events and activities to follow. This year's highlights include: Pittsburgh stars Johnny Angel and the Halos at Heinz Hall, River City Brass Band at the Byham Theater, and Pittsburgh's creative performance groups Squonk Opera and Attack Theatre. Learn magic tricks from professionals, laugh to comedians, or swoon to music by local blues and jazz bands. Always a hit with the little ones, the Family Area returns with a theme of fabulous inventions from Pittsburgh's past but with a twist! We'll need help creating the inventions of Pittsburgh's future. And, of course, there's the fabulous parade at 8 p.m., midnight fireworks, street acts, hands-on activities and plenty of surprises to make this party one that can't be missed.
