In 1979 I went to work for the Los Angeles County Fire Department, working on an Air-Attack hand crew assigned to Camp 9. While working with 30 other young aspiring firefighters, I developed a system to contact different fire departments to get the recruitment information we needed to take firefighter tests. I became the “firefighter test information guy” in camp. After a couple of years of testing, I landed a firefighter job in the largest city in Ventura County. I started my city fire career in October 1981. Currently, I am a Captain assigned to a Engine Company.
