About us
Every 5 seconds one person in the world will go blind. Every day in the UK about 100 people start to lose their sight. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) results in half of all registered blindness in the UK, affecting half a million people. There are no cures or truly effective treatments for AMD and sight loss is irreversible.
For 40 years now, Fight for Sight has been at the forefront of research into the prevention of blindness and treatment of eye disease in the UK. We've made considerable progress but there's still so much to be done.
Over the past five years alone, Fight for Sight has committed £13 million to eye research - at the Institute of Ophthalmology, research partner to the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital, and other centres of excellence across the UK.
