Fight Directors, Canada

Description

Since its inception in 1993, Fight Directors Canada has striven for excellence in the training of actor combatants, fight instructors, and directors. We are the sole Canadian association that focuses on the art of stage combat. Our members and alumnae have participated in classes, workshops, and performances across Canada. You do not need to look far to meet someone who has been touched by Fight Directors Canada, and we look forward to continued growth in the years ahead.

I have been incredibly fortunate to see and be a part of the maturing of FDC. FDC began as the dream of a small group headed by Robert Seale and JP Fournier, and has since grown to become more responsive to its membership through the help of new executive and especially our previous president Paul Gelineau. It was Paul who started us on this journey of democracy and accountability, and with the commitment of the membership we will build and strengthen this philosophy. We must also thank Kara Wooten, who in her position as Vice President of Education worked so hard to help shape FDC's policy and procedure manual. It was and continues to be an enormous job. FDC is and will always be a living thing, and as it continues to mature, the membership will make it the democratic and open association we are working towards.

What will the next year look like? We have already begun planning next year's National Stage Combat workshop and Vancouver regional workshop. A vital part of FDC's mandate is to give everyone who comes through our doors the opportunity to become the best-trained and most proficient practitioners of stage combat they can be. At all levels we will continue to develop and explore new ways of instruction, and new styles and techniques of stage combat performance.
