FantasyFootballChallenge.com Fantasy football stats, teams and rankings

Title

Free Fantasy Football Stats, Player Rankings, & Information

Description

History: The site was originally created as a paid fantasy football contest in 2002. There was a single salary cap contest that awarded prizes based on division and overall. The salary cap game was not as popular as some others but as a newcomer into the market it won wide acclaim for its well designed interface and ease of use.

In 2003 the site was changed and redesigned. I few more games were added including some basic pickem games. The there were a couple glitches but for the most part it ran well all season and was updated. Many people playing had praised the support team for returning inquiries sometimes only minutes after they were sent.

In 2004 the site was changed again and they offered free fantasy football contests with cash prizes. The 5 main contests were relaunched with a different interface. The main upgrade seemed to be to the salary cap game that they called the Mega Challenge. This new Roster Edit interface was designed in Javascript and was pretty slick. It was similar to the old Yahoo Javascript player ranking screen.

In 2005 they added one more game that allowed players to choose a roster each week but they could only choose a single player once per season. They tried to build "community" features and offer news as well but they may have bitten off more than they can chew at the time. Some of these features were never completely finished even though the stuff they had built so far showed a lot of potential.

The games were suspended from 2006 - 2008 with a few updates on the site about relaunching a new site at some point but with no specific date.

In late November 2008 the site relaunched as a completely different service. It looks like the logo, design, and purpose of the site is completely different and it may have been sold or under new management.

Currently fantasyfootballchallenge.com is a massive fantasy football information site focusing on current and historical statistics. They appear to have rosters, player rankings, and schedules going as far back as 1920. There are also some rankings and lists that you can't find anywhere else like all time fantasy point rankings by team, year, position, etc.

Even some of the stats seem somewhat more complete than NFL.com, ESPN, or ProFootballReference. Mostly this is in the historical rosters.

It remains to be seen as to whether they will relaunch the contests (specifically the Salary Cap contest they were famous for) or even if they are in fact the same company.
