- FamilyToolbox.net, Inc. traces its roots to late 1994, when Matthew Helm decided to create a comprehensive index of all genealogically related sites on the Internet. The resulting product, Helm's Genealogy Toolbox (http://www.genealogytoolbox.com), premiered on the World Wide Web in February 1995 with a mere 134 links in 12 categories. After a few months, traffic on the Genealogy Toolbox became so great that Matthew was asked to move the site to another provider. The Genealogy Toolbox was moved to a temporary provider until arrangements could be made to move it to its own server. To offset the cost of maintaining a server and Internet connection, Matthew Helm and April Leigh Helm decided to create a new business.
