Factle Maps: Neighborhood Boundary & Demographic Data
Factle Maps provides neighborhood boundary data and neighborhood demographic data. Factle Maps was created out of the great need for neighborhood data, specifically names, boundaries (polygons), centroids, and demographic data. In 2005, members of Factle Maps were working for Homegain.com on the first ever nationwide digital neighborhood boundary map layer. In fact, it was a group of interns from the UC Berkeley campus, who's hard work and dedication brought the project the 2006 Meridian People's Choice Award. From there, Factle Maps was spun off to continue providing neighborhood expertise in mapping and supply knowledge and data to great market need, ranging from: Real Estate, Crime Mapping, Marketing and Local Advertising, Hyper Local News and Blogging, Public Health Research, Foreclosure Analysis, and much more.
Neighborhoods are naturally the perfect social unit. It is the place and entity by which constituents of a community gather and recognize. Almost every major city possess neighborhoods, with each neighborhood consisting of a particular style and feel. Neighborhoods are socially created, through the interactions of its members, but also created through landmarks and natural boundaries and barriers such as freeways and rivers. Neighborhood boundaries are important tools by which we can search for what is within a neighborhood, but also to see the strong correlations that preside in a neighborhood. We can see how crime is related to the financial strength in a neighborhood, we can see how education, housing prices, health, and so much more are correlated. By the sheer fact that neighborhoods bear one the highest homogeneous consistencies, we have one of the most powerful tools in neighborhood boundary data.
