FPC

Description

Reverend Susie Cashion became our pastor on May 2nd, 2001. She earned her Doctorate of Divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. Originally from Amarillo, TX, she also has many family ties to Oklahoma.

FPC was founded over 100 years ago with services held on the open prairie directly across from the Land Office on August 4, 1901. Town site lots for the future town of Lawton were auctioned off on August 6th. The congregation's original charter was signed on September 1st, 1901. A large circular tent was donated and services continued at a temporary location until the congregation purchased a lot at 716 D Avenue. The new church building was dedicated there on October 12, 1902. The congregation later outgrew this building. We built a new church building at our present location which was dedicated on October 20, 1957. The Erwin Memorial Chapel and Youth Room were later added and dedicated on May 31, 1987. The original church is now called the Little Chapel, and is believed to be Lawton's oldest remaining public building. Carefully restored, the Gothic Revival church is on the National Historical Register.
