Description
Everything went off without a hitch, EXCEPT we didn't make our connecting flight home on Air France, which is something Triple A set up for us.
Here's what I recall of the romantic dinner in Ostia Antica at the Rodrigo de Vivar country inn (and they drive you there, it's nearby). For 30 euro each, we had a great dinner served by an Italian lady about 70 or so years old, named Adele (sp?). She started with antipasti plate each filled with colorful hors'dourves like deep fried eggplant and zucchini and can't remember the rest. Then homemade pasta with a light meat sauce followed by pork tenderloin and small fried potatoes. Dessert was a bowl of whole fruits. And of course red wine. They grow their own produce on the grounds. You could pay more at 40 euro each and get some other type of dessert and maybe something different, but it was GREAT at 30. It was just the two of us in this country house, quiet and undisturbed. Just what we needed on our last night after the two weeks of travel.
As I told you, we weren't able to see the ruins at Ostia because they closed at 5 p.m. and we arrived at 4:30. As planned, we left Lucca about 9:30 a.m. on the train, transferred in Florence, then to Rome and took the commuter train to the airport. Then taxi.
