Looking back over the years and the wars fought, it isn't difficult to note what courage, patriotism, sacrifice and devotion were displayed by Tennesseans and especially East Tennesseans. In small communities spread up and down our mountains and valleys, monuments have been erected to show our feelings, but not in the larger cities.
It is the objective of our organization not only to correct this situation, but also to develop a durable tribute beyond a monument. We have not undertaken this project lightly. We will develop a concept that should reach back into the past and far into the future. We want to recognize and understand better what was passed on to us by the bravery of this country's youth.
We want to have a living tribute encompassing a Veterans History Center and a reverent plaza, so that our eternally young men and women will never be forgotten.
