Before undertaking this major effort, we looked at dozens of commercially available LMSs and didn't like what we found: Systems starting at $100,000, LMSs that would require us to use a proprietary authoring system, little control over how the LMS would work, and an industry in the flux with major players merging, consolidating, and going out of business everyday.
