Description
The East Palo Alto Kids Foundation (EPAK) supports quality public education in the Ravenswood City School district and serves approximately 4,500 students in East Palo Alto and eastern Menlo Park. A private, 501(c)3 non-profit foundation, EPAK is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, comprising retired Ravenswood teachers and community members dedicated to providing quality education for all students.
During the 2005-2006 school year, EPAK awarded $130,455 in grants to 200 teachers at 11 schools in the Ravenswood City School District. These grants enabled teachers to improve their literacy, math, science, technology and arts programs. EPAK's hope is that the teachers who receive our grants will feel supported in the important work they do. And that the children, who are the ultimate recipients, benefit from the multitude of quality educational experiences our grant recipients bring to their programs.
EPAK provides this help because school funding does not match the needs of this ethnically diverse (67% Latino, 21% African America, 69% are English Language Learners) predominantly low-income community (96% of students in the Ravenswood City School District qualify for free or reduced price lunches).
