In 1895 Albert Glatz opened umbrella workshop in a small village in Switzerland . This began an era of umbrella. manufacturing and a family business for generations to follow. Over the years the Glatz company demonstrated its technical flair with various patio and garden umbrella products and built a solid reputation for ingenious and reliable patio and garden umbrella designs.
In 1959 the first freearm umbrella was introduced The Pendalex Sunshade was the original sidepost ,or cantilevered umbrella, setting the standard for freearm umbrella design and fabrication. Since its development the Pendalex has inspired many umbrella imitations unable to surpass its standard of excellence.
Glatz continued to produce innovative patio umbrella designs and in 1972 the first giant umbrella was introduced to the commercial market. With the European tradition of al fresco living the giant umbrellas became a popular umbrella for outdoor restaurants and recreational areas.
