After graduating from Auburn University in 1965, he joined Reynolds Metals Company (the creators of Reynolds Wrap* and aluminum can recycling) as an industrial engineer. Reducing costs and improving operating performances for the company became his profession.
He retired from Reynolds, a Fortune 500 company, in 1997, after rising to corporate vice president and general manager of some of the company's most energy efficient operations. In 1998, he formed his own company, Home Designs and Innovations, and intensified his efforts in helping homeowners in a variety of climates lower their energy costs. His book includes the company's best do-it-yourself energy cost reducing projects.
