Synth-DIY Since 2002 I have been developing analog modular synthesizers, 25 years after my first project (a Practical Electronics mono synth, which just about worked!) and studying for an Electronics Degree at Essex University (UK). The inspiration to recreate analog designs from the 1970's is two fold;

Firstly the mono synths I bought in the 1980's (Odyssey, Pro One, Prodigy) sounded very nice, but were frustrating to play, due to the old pots and non-MIDI keyboards. There also had design weaknesses (that noisy Odyssey VCA), and there were real limits on the modulation and sound possibilities.

Secondly, old schematics are now available from the Internet, and the Synth DIY movement means professional PCB's and panels can be produced at a reasonable cost. The latest RoHS regulations and increasing obsolence of parts makes it a little more challenging.... more »
