- In October 1982 three officials of the English Ladies' Golf Association recognised that times had changed. Golf was no longer the preserve of the comfortably off and was beginning to appeal to others who could perhaps benefit from a little financial encouragement to take up the game and hopefully stick to it. Travel, overnight accommodation at national competitions, as well as the cost of equipment and coaching all cost money.
