Des Moines, Iowa, June 12, 2006 - While other energy costs rise, the cost per unit of electricity – kilowatt hour – for MidAmerican Energy’s Iowa customers is lower today than it was in 1995.
MidAmerican’s last electric rate increase occurred in 1995, and following electric rate decreases in 1997 and 1999, the cost per kilowatt hour of electricity has remained the same. Today, in Iowa, MidAmerican’s electric rates are lower than the statewide average.
Compared to the average of 55 U.S. states and territories, MidAmerican’s electric rates are lower than 41 U.S. states and territories, according to the most recent statistics from the federal government’s Energy Information Administration. In 1995, MidAmerican’s electric rates were lower than just 27 U.S. states and territories.
