Description
El Salvador is strategically located in Central America, between the north and south of the American Continent. It borders the Republic of Guatemala to the west, the Republic of Honduras to the north, the Republics of Honduras and Nicaragua to the east, in the waters of the Gulf of Fonseca, and to the south with the Pacific Ocean. Its territorial extension is approximately 20,742 square kilometers, it has 296 kilometers of coastline in the Pacific which extends throughout the country.
El Salvador has a population of approximately 5.6 million people and about one million Salvadorans reside and work in the United States of America.
During the last few years, starting with the signing of the Peace Accords in 1992 and the institutionalization of democracy, El Salvador has undertaken a process of economic and social development, placing itself in an outstanding position within the international community.
