century onwards, it became customary to exchange elaborate surprise Easter Eggs. The high point of all time was reached in the fabulous egg-shaped treasures created by the imaginative goldsmith of Russia, Peter Carl Faberge, and his meticulous artists and craftsmen. Their creations have provided inspiration to many real eggshell decorators all over the world. The first Imperial Easter Egg was made by Faberge for Tsar Alexander III who gave it as a gift of love to his Tsarina, who hailed from Denmark.
