Description
Depth Hypnosis®, developed by Isa Gucciardi, Ph.D., is a dynamic therapeutic model that is based upon the 'four pillars' of transpersonal psychology, Buddhism, hypnotherapy, and shamanism. The technique of 'insight inquiry' solicits the underlying truth from clients themselves, rather than offering the therapist's interpretation of the problem. Since Depth Hypnosis® draws upon the higher aspects of an individual (or soul aspects) and since most of us are not conscious of this aspect in our waking state, it is often necessary for the person to work in an altered state. Dr. Gucciardi's approach offers several avenues for accessing these states of consciousness.
Unlike traditional 'talk' therapy, which addresses the conscious, rational mind, this work goes deep into the psyche, uncovering the root of the issue. Hypnotherapy practiced in this model also differs from traditional methods in that it doesn't merely 'hold' the client in their wounding, but through 'fierce compassion', enables the client to penetrate the labyrinth of mind and come face to face with themselves. A basic assumption of Depth Hypnosis® is that everyone has the ability to heal.
Rather than beginning with a diagnosis, and treating this 'disorder', Depth Hypnosis® treats the underlying distortions of the self that are responsible for the dysfunction. Eddie Oberste has studied this method as well as related shamanic and healing courses offered by the Anam Cara Foundation. He synthesizes these techniques with his own experience in counseling and meditation to promote healing for his clients.
