Description
In 1963, Edmonds began as a summer employment project for John Edmonds. Brother Roger joined John in March of 1965 to form the Edmonds Bros. partnership. In 1966 the enterprise was incorporated as Edmonds Bros. Enterprises Limited.
Through the late 60s and 70s, the operation diversified significantly to include expanded snow and ice control services, gasoline retailing and automotive repairs, retail garden centers, various residential and commercial rental properties, heavy trucking, a 100 acre farm for the production of sod and nursery stock, pre-cast concrete manufacturing and a commercial/residential fencing division. By 1978 the Company's combined operations employed more than 175 people with revenues approaching 6 million dollars and a market area including the Maritime Provinces and export of concrete products to Quebec and Ontario.
In 1979, owing to a too rapid expansion and diversification, the Company was re-organized, downsized, and re-incorporated as Edmonds Landscape and Construction Services Limited. We retained those parts of the business where our experience and expertise remained economically viable.
