Description

The EcoLinks Program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) was created in 1998 to provide assistance in addressing environmental issues in the region of Europe and Eurasia (E&E). EcoLinks facilitates the engagement of the private environmental and clean energy technology and services sectors to address environmental challenges throughout Europe & Eurasia. EcoLinks facilates this disseminating market and project information and promoting business partnerships between environmental businesses, governments, and associations in the region, and between these organizations and their U.S. counterparts. Over the past seven years U.S. and Eurasian counterparts have been assisted in initiating and undertaking joint projects and businesses which address local environmental problems and disseminate best environmental management practices for municipalities, industries and local practioners.

Creating lasting environmentally focused partnerships among E&E businesses, local governments, and relevant associations and between these organizations and their counterparts in the United States;

EcoLinks has pursued these objectives through complementary program components: Partnership Grants and the Trade and Investment Program. The Grants Program which finished in 2004 provided financial assistance for initial partner meetings and for feasibility studies; the EcoLinks Trade and Investment program continues to facilitates the transfer of environmental technology through it's network of "Tech Reps" (Technology Representatives) who currently work in the U.S. Embassies in Bulgaria, Romania, Poland and Central Asia. The Trade and Investment component is coordinated by a U.S. based team in Washington, DC, which assists the Tech Reps in organizing trade missions, conferences and project workshops in Europe & Eurasia, and in disseminating market opportunities to the U.S. private sector through the EcoLinks website, the U.S. Department of Commerce network and trade shows and business matchmaking events in the U.S..
