MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Economic Crime Investigation Institute (now named the Economic Crime Institute of Utica College) was founded in 1988, its vision was unlimited, but the expectations were not as grand. It was intended to support the newly begun Economic Crime Investigation undergraduate minor at Utica College, as it was the first of its kind in an emerging field. It was also a means of providing continuing education to those in the field through an annual conference.

Now, seventeen years later, the vision is still unlimited, but the expectations are much higher – and they are being met. The undergraduate program at Utica College continues to grow and has spurned similar programs in other colleges and universities. The master’s program, which started in 1998, has over 100 current students and alumna. Since 1991 the annual conference has been held in New York City or the Washington, DC area. These conferences, which have become international, attract expert speakers, and participants from the private and public sector, at all levels.

Another successful ECI initiative is to provide cutting edge research publications. The ECI supports two online journals, both editorially and financially: the Journal of Economic Crime Management (www.jecm.org) and the International Journal of Digital Evidence (www.ijde.org). White papers are provided on our website, as well.
