Ech2o Soil Moisture and Microclimate Monitoring
Description
Decagon Devices was initially founded as a family business in 1983 by Dr. Gaylon Campbell, a reknowned soil scientist at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. Initially begun as a way to provide employment for his immediate family, Decagon has now grown into a prosperous small business with over 40 employees. Decagon's goal is to develop and manufacture high quality innovative products to serve the needs of specific niche markets.
Decagon is located in Pullman, Washington, which is the largest city (pop. 25,000) in the fertile geographic region of eastern Washington known as the Palouse. The Palouse is famous for a variety of reasons; the Appaloosa horse breed was discovered here, and the Palouse is also leading producer of peas and lentils in the world. High-quality soft white winter wheat is also grown extensively throughout the rolling hills of the Palouse.
Decagon began by serving the needs of soils scientists—primarily colleagues of Dr. Campbell. It quickly moved into development of broader instrumentation for plant scientists, and later into products for major food manufacturers.
