So, "what do y'all do with your Paso Finos up there in the Great White North you ask?".... All kinds of fun stuff as I am here to report. The Paso Fino breed is still a little known entity here in Canada, but our numbers are growing and so is our enthusiasm for these wonderful horses. Unfortunately I am unable to tell you exactly how many Paso Finos there are in Canada - as this is a very big country and with virtually no shows and few breeders and a great many Paso Finos owned by individuals who aren't members of PFHA, - so it's hard to get a head count... but I would guess in the range of 200 or so. I know of Paso Finos thriving in Canada as far West as Quesnel, British Columbia, and as far East as Dow Settlement, New Brunswick.
A couple years ago, with a lot of help from the kind folks in the Great Lakes PFHA, there was a region formed here in Canada, known as the Eastern Canada PFHA. It was not our desire to alienate Western Canada when this group was formed, just a recognition that our country was just too huge to try to be all things to all people nationwide. We knew that no West Coaster was ever going to be able to make the trip to Ontario for an event. This fledgling group is still finding its feet, but we're off to a pretty good start with a full roster of things to do with your Paso Fino (in the good weather months, at least).
