Until recently most employee, training was done either on the job or in a classroom with an instructor. This reality is changing quickly as computer and Internet technologies have enabled trainings to be delivered via a digital medium. This medium can be a CD-ROM or DVD or installed on a computer, and increasingly these trainings can be delivered online via the Internet or intranets. In all cases, these trainings are interactive (to greater and lesser degrees) and they do not require an instructor – or the role of an instructor is minimized.
There are many logical reasons why eLearning is catching on very quickly. When you have to teach 1,000 or 50,000 employees in disparate locations, it is too expensive to fly them to a classroom, hire teachers and put them all up in hotels. Once a training is ‘digital,’ it is easy to make changes – and our world is quickly changing. Learners can also go at their own pace and most convenient time. ELearning courses are inherently consistent
and deliver the same branding values and information across the board to all learners. This list goes on, but the advantages are clear. The EVU has been positively established for bringing trainings into the eLearning world.
