Description

Having completed the B. E. (Hons.) Degree in Electrical Engineering in the year 1965, Professor C. M. Bhatia joined the University of Roorkee [now known as Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (India)], wherein he completed his Post Graduation in Applied Electronics & Servomechanism in the year 1968, through the Technical Teacher's Training Programme of the Govt. of India. He served as an Assistant Professor at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala (India), between 1968 to 1970. During this period he was mostly engaged in teaching the undergraduates. In early 1971 he moved to the Indian Institute of Technology, (I.I.T.) Delhi (India), for research leading to a Ph. D. degree. Later in 1973 he joined Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (India), as a member faculty in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Ever since then he has been with the I.I.T. Delhi (India).

During this period of about 32 years at The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Professor Bhatia has been engaged in Teaching, Research, Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy. He holds the Chair of a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, for the last 13 years and has several Research papers as well as Industrial Projects to his credit. He has also held important positions at the I.I.T. Delhi. Significant among these are the Coordinator for Indo-British collaboration on Microprocessor Education, Training & Research; Coordinator Quality Improvement Programme (QIP), Coordinator Overall Curriculum Development and Coordinator Continuing Education Programme (CEP). Between April 1999 to August 1999, he was the Chairman of the National Coordination Committee of the QIP. Professor Bhatia has also been member Board of Governors of Malviya Regional Engineering College Jaipur, between 1996 to 1999. Professor Bhatia has been on various committees of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), e.g., National Board of Accreditation (NBA), National Projects Evaluation Committees etc. He has also traveled abroad several times as visiting Faculty, and also for attending International Conferences, especially to Countries like England, Scotland, Germany, Northern Ireland, France, Sweden, Iran etc.

Professor Bhatia has been responsible for leading and pursuing research in the area of Power Electronics & Variable Speed Drives, Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS), Microprocessor & Microcomputer based System Design for Industry and Microprocessor based Interdisciplinary Education at I.I.T. Delhi. Besides his regular Engineering subjects and the field of specialization, he has active interest in Total Quality Management (TQM), Education Technology through CBT, WBT; Distant Education, Technology Enhance Learning (TEL), e -Learning, Multimedia, Internet Security, e -Commerce and e -Business.
