Following an informational meeting in December, 1936, farmers from the townships of Dickinson, Saline and Ottawa Counties formed groups consisting of two or three farmers to create survey teams. These survey teams were then used to determine the number of households and businesses who would use electricity. The result of this survey was the formation of DS&O Rural Electric Cooperative. DS&O obtained the first REA loan in Kansas on April 10, 1937, in the amount of $254,651.
