We are dedicated to the promotion of alpacas and alpaca products. The alpaca is a member of the camel family, native to the Andes mountains of South America. It was domesticated over 10,000 years ago by pre-Inca peoples, who prized the fiber of the alpaca so much that it was originally reserved only for royalty! Alpaca is three times warmer than wool for the weight but lighter and more breathable. Alpaca comes in 22 beautiful natural colors, more than any other natural fiber on earth. In addition, alpaca fiber does not generally require the harsh chemical processing and cleaning that wool does. Rather, natural-colored alpaca is washed with a mild, bio-degradable detergent. As a result, alpaca fiber processing is gentler on our environment and safer for chemically-sensitive individuals. Fine alpaca also lacks the "prickle" of wool, and can often be worn directly next to even sensitive skin!
