Dr. Manuel joined the Baylor Vision team in early 1999. Since 1979, he has served the vision needs of the Clear Lake City-Bay Area with a multi-disciplinary practice. In 1990, NASA-Johnson Space Center selected him to perform studies establishing the viability of contact lenses in space flight. Since this initial research, he continues to provide all vision care for the Astronaut Corps, consults in many areas of space research and has co-authored the ophthalmologic book chapter in Principles of Clinical Medicine for Space Flight. Following 30 years of service to his country, Dr. Manuel recently retired from the United States Air Force and USAF Reserve. His final assignment as senior optometric consultant for the Air Force and as special assistant to the USAF Surgeon General retired him in the rank of Colonel.
