The days and nights of my earliest childhood memories have always been filled with a great love of and interest in the natural world, animals particularly but especially DOGS. Hi, I'm Dominick Donovan President and Director of TRAINING /breeding here at Donovan k-9 where we dare to say our experience and motivation are hard to match.

I arrived in this world the first-born son of a retired prize fighter who himself always had a great love of and "knack" for training dogs. All of my baby and toddler pictures are themed by the recurring image of the family German shepherd "Sheba". My father had gotten "Hooked" on the K-9 training hobby while stationed in Europe on military duty where the training of "service dogs" was a most popular pastime. Therefore it was not surprising that he should take up dog training upon his retirement from the ring as a natural outlet for the discipline and goal orientation that a professional fighter spends a lifetime becoming accustomed to. I firmly believe that these early examples of high principle and hard work have woven themselves into my psyche and are expressed in my techniques, philosophy and work ethic on a daily basis. For my tenth birthday I received as a gift from my father (and to my mothers protest!) a German shepherd import "Kyrass v. Fligerberg" Schutzhund 111.

I successfully passed several examinations at Schutzhund trials sponsored by the now defunct North American Schutzhund Association (N.A.S.A), which was the first organization to offer sanctioned events in the early days prior to the development of the D.V.G. in America and Schutzhund U.S.A. My participation and success at these early trials drew the attention of many "seasoned" trainers, largely due to the unusual fact that I was only eleven years old at the time. By the time I was fifteen years of age I had bred, raised, trained and handled my next dog "Zorn" Schutzhund 111, FH, to all degrees and had produced a second generation of titled dogs which I also trained myself. I was a certified Schutzhund trail helper by the D.V.G., had been selected as trial helper for the regional championship and was elected head director of training at the local Schutzhund club. At the arrival of my seventeenth birthday I had complied a list of accomplishments which would rival those much older than myself and which I am still quite proud of today, one of which is having my dog "NANDO" SCH I sire a USA national schutzhund three champion!!! Throughout all these years and the many stages of my growing up, due to my overwhelming interest I have never had any other jobs besides those which kept me close to my love of breeding, raising and training dogs.
