At The Lost Dogs’ Home, our mission is: “To serve the community and enhance the welfare of dogs and cats by alleviating animal suffering and reducing the number of lost, injured and unwanted animals.”
Founded in 1912, The Lost Dogs’ Home is today the third largest animal shelter in Australia, the largest dog shelter in the state of Victoria (handling twice as many dogs as any other shelter) and the second largest cat shelter in Victoria. We offer the community a wide variety of animal welfare services.
Each year around 20,000 dogs and cats come to The Lost Dogs’ Home. Despite all endeavours, there are not enough new homes for all the stray and unwanted animals delivered each day. On average the shelter staff care for 200 dogs and 120 cats each week.
